Hike to the spot, fish the lake, cook what you catch or buy
Konrad grew up fishing and cooking. This is his favourite full-day combination: hike to the best spot on Lake Thun or the Kander delta, fish for three hours, then cook what you catch — or supplement from the Spiez market if the fish have other plans.
The cooking happens outdoors wherever possible — a fire if permitted, a portable setup otherwise. Konrad filletes, seasons and cooks. You contribute wine, timing and appetite.
Meet at Spiez lakefront
Rods, licences and bait prepared. Konrad briefs on the day's target fish and the Kander delta conditions.
Hike to the fishing spot
45-minute hike along the Lake Thun south shore trail to a quiet delta section. Quieter and far more productive than the public piers.
Fishing — 3 hours
Perch, trout and whitefish are the usual catch in this section. Konrad coaches technique for first-timers or fishes alongside experienced anglers.
Cook the catch
Portable grill set up at the bank. Konrad cleans and prepares the fish. Sides from the Spiez market run the evening before.
Lunch and wine by the lake
Eat where you cooked. The Spiez vineyards are visible on the hillside above — Konrad usually brings a bottle from the same hillside.
Return hike to Spiez
Relaxed walk back. Optional stop at the Spiez castle on the way to the car.
Where the Kander river meets Lake Thun — the most productive freshwater fishing location in the western Oberland.
Medieval castle on a peninsula above the water. One of the most photographed spots in Switzerland — the walk back passes directly through it.
