Alpine skies, telescope and hot chocolate — ages 8+
Above 1,000 m on a clear night, the Beatenberg ridge gives near-zero light pollution and a horizon that runs from the Jungfrau massif to the Bernese Mittelland. Anoli brings the telescope, the sky charts, and knows which planets are visible on any given night.
This works for adults and children equally. The programme is relaxed — some telescope, some naked-eye star identification, a lot of hot chocolate. One of the quietest, most unexpectedly beautiful experiences in the Oberland.
Meet at the Beatenberg viewpoint
Anoli sets up the telescope before dark. Sky chart distributed. Hot chocolate in the thermos.
Naked-eye constellations
Anoli identifies the evening's constellations and explains the mythology. Summer: Scorpius, Sagittarius, and the Milky Way core.
Telescope time
Jupiter's moons, Saturn's rings, and the lunar surface if the moon is up. One person at the eyepiece at a time — everyone gets a look.
Hot chocolate and shooting stars
Thermos opened. Anoli tells stories. Shooting stars are common from Beatenberg — the ridge runs east–west and the sky is wide.
Close
Telescope packed. Return to cars or Beatenberg village.
A flat, south-facing ridge at 1,150 m with an unobstructed horizon from east to west. Best star-gazing location above Lake Thun.
