Alpine forest foraging — pick, identify and cook together
The Beatenberg ridge and the Niederhorn forest hold some of the best wild mushroom ground in the Bernese Oberland — cèpes, chanterelles, and in good years hedgehog mushrooms and field mushrooms in quantity. The season runs August to October, with September the most reliable month.
After the hunt, Konrad and Anoli cook everything you've found (with identification verified first). Simple preparation: pan, butter, garlic, and good bread. What you can't eat goes home in a paper bag.
Meet at Beatenberg village
Baskets distributed. Konrad briefs on the four key edible species for the day and the three look-alikes to avoid. No mushroom picked without his check.
Forest foraging
Into the Niederhorn forest — mixed beech and fir below the ridge. Konrad and Anoli lead separate groups if the party is larger than four.
Sort and identify
All finds laid out. Every specimen identified before it goes in the cooking pot. Usually 2–5 species on a good day.
Cook together
Portable setup at the forest edge or back in Beatenberg. Pan-fried in butter with garlic and herbs. Bread from the village bakery.
Eat and descend
Lunch at the cooking spot. Return to Beatenberg via the forest trail.

The mixed forest below the Niederhorn summit. Best chanterelle and cèpe ground in the area in August and September.
