Sobre Brienz

Brienz sits at the eastern end of Lake Brienz — one of the most vividly turquoise lakes in Switzerland, fed by glacial meltwater from the Aare and Lütschine rivers. The village has been Switzerland's centre of wood carving since the 18th century; the Swiss Wood Carving School (founded 1884) still trains craftsmen in the tradition.

The Brienz Rothorn Railway, operating since 1892, is one of the last purely steam-powered rack railways in the world. Its century-old locomotives haul passengers 7.6 km up to 2,244m — the same technology used when the line opened.
